Silk was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Ilkay is the mother of Peter who is an educator as well as a leading actress and playwright. Peter was educated at St. Thomas University. The earliest memories of Anna were of going to play rehearsals and watching her mother work. Silk appeared in several commercials as a child. She was a graduate of St. Thomas University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1997. Her early theater experience includes at least two productions in collaboration with Theatre St. Thomas: Seven Menus and The Kitchen. Silk was able to move out of Toronto in 1999 to Los Angeles in the decade after 1999. She met her future spouse, Seth Cooperman, at an Actor's training in Los Angeles, in 2007. The couple was married civilly in December 2009. The couple got married in Fredericton on the 10th April of 2011, following her change to Judaism the couple renewed their vows at the Jewish marriage ceremony.
